UPDATE: College professor who taught Navigating Pornography class sexted with porn star guest speaker

20130812-144513.jpg

It turns out pro-porn college professor Hugo Schwyzer took his “medical leave” due to sexting with a porn performer! — Married and with kids, this porn-promoting professor — who has admitted he’s a fraud — sexted pics of his naked penis to the porn performer and “guest speaker” for his porn class, and yet still defends himself by saying he didn’t break any university rules… Read on for more outrageous statements and details…

[New York Daily News] — While navigating pornography, one California professor got seriously lost.

Hugo Schwyzer, a humanities professor at Pasadena City College who recently taught a class titled “Navigating Pornography,” now openly admits he is something of a “fraud.”

Last week, the tenured professor announced he was going on medical leave after a sexting relationship with an amateur porn star who planned to speak at his class surfaced on various internet sites.

In one particularly salacious exchange, Schwyzer and Christina Parreira traded fantasies about having a threesome with porn superstar James Deen—who also was a guest speaker at Schwyzer’s class—while students watched and masturbated.

“I think your students would really enjoy a live demonstration,” Parreira wrote Schwyzer in a text that was leaked to the porn website TheRealPornWikiLeaks.com. “On the desk with you. I’ll film it so the whole thing will be REALLY professional.”

“Perfect!” Schwyzer replied. “I think they’d think it was pretty hot, honestly.”

In addition to the racy text exchanges, Schwyzer—who is married and the father of two children— also sent pictures of his penis to Parreira.

“I had a bi-polar breakdown. That’s an explanation, not an excuse,” Schwyzer told the Daily News. “And I knew I should have been in therapy and on my meds.”

Speaking to the News from his mother’s home in Carmel-by-the-sea, California, Schwyzer says he has suffered from mental illness for some time.

“I’ve been in and out of institutions for the past 19 years, but managed to get a Ph.D. and a tenure track job,” Schwyzer said.

Perhaps more disturbing than Schwyzer’s fascination with porn stars is the fact that he had managed to parlay it into an academic career as a “male feminist” when, in truth, he received his Ph.D. in Scottish Medieval History.

“When I go back to teaching I’m not going to be teaching porn or gender studies,” Schwyzer said. “A lot of #feminists hated me because they could smell the fraudulence. I was making shit up and I did it over and over again. I was less a professor than a guy running a three-ring circus.”

Now that he has returned to therapy and has resumed taking “a ton” of medication to treat his illness, Schwyzer says he realizes that teaching the course on porn “was done under false pretenses.”

“Porn was of genuine intellectual interest, but I also had an intense desire to get closer to people in the porn industry,” Schwyzer said.

Whether granting interviews about what he has been through is a sign of healing or just another symptom of his illness is something Schwyzer says he has tried reckon with. Whatever the answer, he does hope to return to the classroom before long.

“I’ve put myself on medical leave, but I haven’t broken a single academic rule,” Schwyzer said. “My penis is all over the internet but I haven’t broken the university’s code of conduct.”

Pasadena City College spokesman Juan Gutierrez said last week that he was unaware of Schwyzer’s plans to sit out the fall semester.

“We have not received any direct indication that professor Schwyzer will not be at PCC in the fall,” Gutierrez told the Pasadena Star News. “Should professor Schwyzer indicate that he is in need of any support from the college regarding this situation or health issues, we will extend that support in any way possible.”

Is Porn the New Smoking? — “Smoking was once cool and widespread, but now it’s in disfavor”

20130811-154126.jpg

Here’s an insightful article suggesting we should treat porn like we treat smoking: it’s not healthy or cool! Good plan, don’t you think? 😉

[By Sheila Wray Gregoire] — Let’s talk about the slippery slope of our culture.

Plane rides as a young child were always filled with trepidation for me. It wasn’t crashing that I was afraid of. It was being assigned the first row in the “no smoking” section–meaning that the row right in front of you was lighting up. In the 1970s half the population smoked.

A few decades earlier King George VI was even told to smoke for his health. It would keep him less stressed, and would help his stuttering problem. Unfortunately, he died in his fifties of complications from smoking.

It wasn’t too long ago, then, that smoking was considered harmless, and even kings did it. It was cool, it was fun, and it helped you relax! Today if you smoke you’re a pariah. Don’t you care about your health?

Smoking was once cool and widespread, but now it’s in disfavour. I wonder if porn will follow the same trajectory, because it has all the same ingredients. People think it’s cool. It’s a way to relax! It’s harmless.

And yet, drip by drip, little by little, researchers are starting to realize how destructive it can actually be, both to relationships and to the person using porn him or herself. Porn rewires the brain so that what becomes arousing isn’t a person; it’s an image. And pretty soon arousal requires that stimulus. Being with a live human being isn’t enough anymore.

In fact, sex and relationship counselor Ian Kerner reports on a new term for this–Sexual Attention Deficit Disorder, or SADD. Consume enough porn, and not only do you find making love with a person boring; often men aren’t even able to function without the external stimulus.

Pornography actually works in the brain very similarly to the way cocaine does–except that it’s more addictive. Using porn releases the naturally occurring “pleasure” hormones dopamine, norepinephrine, oxytocin and serotonin in high levels. The dopamine spike in the brain from porn lasts even longer than regular sex–even longer than cocaine. So you go from craving a real relationship to craving porn, at an even greater intensity than drug users crave drugs.

And unlike other drugs, which do leave the system, those images are imprinted there. Once you see something, it’s hard to get it out. Even if you want to just be romantic and concentrate on your spouse, these pictures flood back.

Those pictures give a dangerous message, too: sex is only about the physical, and never about an emotional connection. I worry that people are losing the ability to make love, and all they’re doing is having sex, with porn videos running through their heads the entire time. That’s not loving someone; that’s using someone.

Feminist Law Professor and Anti-Pornography Activist Catharine MacKinnon on “Lovelace” Film – Harvard University Press Blog

20130810-135937.jpg

Here is an insightful interview on the new film Lovelace (@LovelaceMovie), by anti-porn law professor Catharine MacKinnon! MacKinnon was Linda’s attorney, still manages her estate today, and was involved with the making of the film, which she recommends.

By the way if anyone has seen “Lovelace”, please let us know what you thought. Thanks! 🙂

P.S. The film “Lovelace” is available to be seen in select theaters, Video On Demand on cable, and via iTunes, Amazon.com, and other online outlets. Full list of theaters and other options at links below:

From Harvard University Press:

CATHARINE MACKINNON ON LOVELACE:

The pornographic film Deep Throat, released in 1972, was a cultural sensation whose star, “Linda Lovelace,” was said to put a girl-next-door face on the sexual revolution. But the actual life of Linda Boreman, as depicted in the new biopic Lovelace, was one of beatings, rape, and terror. Feminist legal scholar Catharine MacKinnon, author of such works as Toward a Feminist Theory of the State and Only Words, represented Boreman after she came forward with her story, and later, with Andrea Dworkin, pursued civil rights litigation as a means to fight pornography. We asked MacKinnon about Boreman, Lovelace, and the potential impact of the film.

—–

Q. You’ve noted that prior to the 1980 publication of Linda Lovelace’s Ordeal, you had no view of pornography one way or the other. For those unfamiliar with her story, who was Linda Lovelace?

“Linda Lovelace” was the fictional name of Linda Boreman, later Linda Marchiano, who was forced into captivity and made to perform fellatio and other sex acts by pimps, including organized crime, so that pornography, notably the notorious film Deep Throat, could be made of her. The film was instrumental in establishing pornography as culturally legitimate in the 1970s. After her escape, Linda’s valiant opposition to the sex industry included chronicling her abuse in Ordeal and extensive public testimony. Her revelations enabled a change in the way pornography was debated legally and socially, shifting the focus from morality to harm.

Q. This film comes decades after the landmark pornography civil rights hearings at which Marchiano testified, as documented in In Harm’s Way. Can you remind us what was at stake in those hearings?

The anti-pornography civil rights hearings collected in In Harm’s Way created a space for people victimized by pornography to speak about what had been done to them in its making or through its use. Up to that point, the legal argument over pornography had essentially only considered the freedom of speech issues.

The hearings documented the inequality that is foundational to the industry: that the “speech” of the pornographers is the use and abuse of the bodies of mainly women, who were far from free and were not speaking for themselves. The consequences of the distribution and use of the materials was shown to be equally silencing and endangering to legions of women and children who are abused by its consumers. Thus the #sexualexploitation of women and children in making pornography is mass-produced through its consumers to become violation of other women and children.

The civil rights ordinances the hearings debated were passed several times, then found to violate the First Amendment on the theory that the more harm the materials do, the more protected as speech they are–an incorrect, indeed reversed, view of First Amendment law. The ordinances could still be passed and found constitutional today.

Q. What was your involvement with the Lovelace film?

I represented Linda from 1980 until her death, was her friend, and continue to represent her Estate and her children. Lovelace is based in part on our life story rights. It shows Linda as human and credible, as she was not seen as being in life. All she ever wanted was to be believed and respected, to have people face what really happened and take steps to stop it. We see this film as a major step forward in that process. Apparently, when you make fact into fiction, people begin to believe it is true.

We participated in the making of the picture, are proud of it and the people who made it, and feel strongly that Linda would be proud of it.

“Shooting on the Strip: Las Vegas’s Prostitution Secret” (Rampant underage sex trafficking and abuse)

20130808-130057.jpg

Check out this powerful story on the rampant amount of underage prostitution in Las Vegas and how brutal it is!

As the article makes very clear, prostitution is NOT a “victimless crime,” and it OFTEN involves underage females coerced by pimps against their will to continue prostitute themselves. (After they have found exactly how NOT “glamorous” or lucrative prostitution is.) In other words, with the average age of entry into prostitution being 13-14, sex trafficking and prostitution are intimately connected, and to end human trafficking, the DEMAND for it that is fueled by pornography and by johns seeking sex via prostitution must also end.

[The Daily Beast] — It’s not easy being easy in Las Vegas these days.

Although it doesn’t officially advertise it, Las Vegas has long been known for its thriving sex industry. It’s a place where prostitutes come “direct to your room” and outcall entertainment services advertise in the Yellow Pages.

But when representatives of the city’s night-clubbing pimp subculture took their quarrel onto Las Vegas Boulevard in the early-morning hours of February 21, national news consumers were again reminded that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there. The ensuing shooting and fiery crash left three dead and the Strip in chaos.

Self-proclaimed pimp Ammar Harris is accused of setting the chain of events into motion and now faces the possibility of the death penalty. Prosecutors contend Harris shot and killed reputed pimp and rapper Kenneth “Kenny Clutch” Cherry Jr. after their vehicles left the Aria resort. The mortally wounded Cherry lost control of his Maserati and the car careened into a taxicab, causing it to burst into flames. Cabdriver Michael Boldon and passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund of Maple Valley, Washington, were killed.

The grisly incident briefly flipped the sewer lid on the local street-prostitution racket that thrives on the endless flow of partying tourists who annually sojourn to Sin City. Prostitution negotiations are common inside some clubs, where investigators say men of Harris’s ilk are treated like high rollers.

Local police are anything but surprised. Rampant prostitution may be the worst-kept secret in Las Vegas. With so many consenting adults and an undeniable double standard to deal with—prostitution is legal in some rural Nevada counties—Metro’s 28-person Vice Unit must choose its battles carefully. That’s why on most nights you’ll find Metro vice Lt. Karen Hughes and her undercover crew focused on separating teenage prostitutes from the street wolves. There’s no shortage of under-age sex trafficking here.

For all the academic chatter about prostitution being a victimless crime, Las Vegas police know that a large percentage of the working women they encounter were turned out in their mid-teens. Bolstered by the 2013 passage of Assembly Bill 67, a state law that increases penalties for pandering, along with a cooperative arrangement with the Las Vegas office of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, the vice detectives try to focus on the violent pimps and their most vulnerable victims.

From 1994 to 2012, the years the statistics have been kept, Metro Vice identified 2,229 minor sex-trafficking victims, defined by federal law as any prostitute under the age of 18. In the past two years, 238 minors, the youngest just 13 years old, were taken from their pimps. Although Las Vegas attracts visitors from all over the world, most of the young prostitutes are recruited locally with nearly two thirds of those hustled from the African-American community.

The market is dynamic, and the myth that prostitution is legal, or at the very least openly tolerated, doesn’t help. The sex business is booming, and pricy Strip nightclubs and ultra lounges—many of which are subleased by operators who pay high rents to casino corporations—have become a seemingly safe place to hook up.

“The challenge is the demand,” Hughes says. “Many people come here believing prostitution is legal, and they don’t distinguish between the counties. It’s a huge problem for us. But it doesn’t excuse their behavior, especially when they’re engaging in sex with a child.”

Identifying sex-trafficking victims in what Hughes calls a “very sexualized landscape” is also difficult. Persuading the young girls, many dazzled by the nightlife and infatuated with their pimps, that they’re slipping into darkness can be tougher still.

“A lot of times when these pimps recruit the girls, whether they’re juveniles or close to that age, the lure of coming to a tourist destination such as Las Vegas is very appealing to a young girl,” Hughes says. “They get caught up in the nightlife, and it’s very exciting. Before they know it, they get thrown into that pit, so to speak.”

In a sworn affidavit in a child-custody case, one of the girls who allegedly worked for Cherry said she was forced to work while she was pregnant and was ordered not to return home until she made $1,500.

GREAT NEWS! Pasadena City College’s ‘Porn Professor’ Hugo Schwyzer will no longer offer porn class “Navigating Pornography”

20130807-133352.jpg

The college and community applied pressure because they understandably objected to porn performers promoting porn to students, and they won! Yay anti-porn team! Check out the details below. (Note: We’re not cheering the fact that the professor had a breakdown, but considering his highly unethical behavior with the porn class, and multiple off-policy and highly inappropriate affairs with female STUDENTS, clearly some time in “rehab” by him is needed and will hopefully help him cease his harmful behavior…)

[Pasadena City Star] — Pasadena City College’s self-titled “Porn Professor” announced this week he will not offer the class again in the near future after pressures from the college and social media sent him to psychological rehab last week.

Professor Hugo Schwyzer has offered his Humanities 3 class, which he called “Navigating Pornography,” twice at PCC, but this spring the class received backlash from the college and the community after media reports of a guest lecture by porn star James Deen that Schwyzer tried to open up to the public.

Schwyzer said the pressure from PCC as well as online hatred he receives daily on social media because of his other writings on gender issues, have led him to the decision to no longer teach the class. That and an extramarital affair led him to take a step back and focus on his personal life, he said.

“I’m exhausted by threats and controversy,” Schwyzer said via email Wednesday. “I need a break.”

Schwyzer has also gained notoriety online and among feminist groups for his past drug addiction and his last act as an addict, when he tried to kill himself and his ex-girlfriend 15 years ago, according to Schwyzer’s own writings. During his first few years as a professor at PCC, he also admittedly had sexual relationships with a number of his female students, but the college allowed him to remain as a teacher and asked him to author the college’s current policy that bans professor-student relationships.

He said PCC administrators were upset that he chose to talk about his past so publicly and he’d heard rumors on campus that the college was searching for a way to eliminate his porn class, which they also refused to call “Navigating Pornography.”

“There is a very hostile climate at PCC right now, faculty do not get along with administrators, it’s the worst I’ve seen in 20 years,” Schwyzer said.

Representatives from PCC did not return calls for comment.

Because of his past, Schwyzer said, he’s become quite unpopular, and proving his point, Internet feminists rejoiced on Twitter this week following Schwyzer’s blog post on his decision to give in to his critics. Many also criticized Schwyzer’s media interviews after the announcement, including one published in New York Magazine on Wednesday.

“If Hugo Schwyzer was the ‘feminist ally’ he claims to be, he would leave quietly and not spout nonsense like this,” tweeted Lauren Rankin, a feminist writer from New Jersey, including a link to the article.

“Sydney Leathers Is Officially A Porn Star And Plans To Confront Anthony Weiner In New York” (via NY Daily News)

20130806-131137.jpg

Sad but true! Anthony Weiner’s sexting “mistress” has done a solo pornography video for Vivid Entertainment. She’s considering doing a more hardcore video too….

[NY Daily News] — “It’s not a self-pleasure video,” she told the Daily News in an interview on Monday. “It’s just a sexy photo shoot with a behind-the-scenes interview.”

She added, “I’m glad that it’s out. I’m not embarrassed. I think it’s good for me. A lot of girls have body image issues, and I’m not exempt from that. It’s important to look at your body in a positive way. It’s really not that bad.” (Via the NY Daily News)

Okay, so she didn’t actually have sex in front of a camera yet, but it’s still a nude shoot for a leading porn company. Still, Leathers wants everyone to know that she’s not a prostitute, which makes sense because she hasn’t been paid for sex. Again, that we know of.

“If people want to take it that way, fine. But I think it’s weird that anyone would have expectations from me. I’m not running for mayor. It’s my body, it’s my decision. I’ve never been one to let other people pass judgment on my body and what I do with it,” she said.

READ THE REST: http://www.uproxx.com/webculture/2013/08/anthony-weiners-cyber-mistress-sydney-leathers-is-officially-a-porn-star-now/

——————–

Unfortunately this is not the first time Sydney has prostituted herself, in one way or another…

[NY Post] — In a particularly telling portion of that chat, Leathers boasted about stringing along an older Sugar Daddy for three years. She proudly said that her day-to-day expenses were paid for, all without having to put out.

“I never had sex with him. I didn’t want to because I knew I didn’t have to,” Leathers said. “I knew I could get what I wanted without sleeping with him.”

Now that her 15 minutes of fame have stretched into 53 minutes of X-rated footage, Leathers said she’s being recognized on the streets.

“It’s happening more frequently,” she said. “In passing the other day, someone said, ‘Oh there’s the Weiner girl.’ “

——————–

In this interesting article by ex-porn performer Aurora Snow, Aurora advises Sydney to NOT do hardcore porn…. (While still unfortunately glamorizing being a “regular” “porn star”…)

[The Daily Beast] — Think about where you might want to be five or 10 years from now. Selling yourself out for one sex tape hardly carries the hard-earned prestige of being a porn star. So unless you are ready to do your time—hundreds of hardcore scenes—all you might hope to gain from a sex tape is a fat check and a soiled reputation sans the porn-star perks. A sex tape will follow you forever. If you should one day decide to be a teacher, or seek a public office, this is a surefire way to block such endeavors.

Here’s a very short story of a young women who pretended to lust after other guys to help her boyfriend understand how she feels when he watches porn. She got an interesting result! 😉 Please check it out below and let us know what you think! We will pass along a link to the post to the author. 😉

By feminismo3x (female, 22, U.S.)

DISTURBATION: Instead of explaining to my boyfriend about how I felt about him lusting after other women in porn while being in a #relationship with me, like I had tried in the past, I decided to just put him in my position.

As we were laying there in his apartment bedroom, I pretended to masturbate to Thor, the supposedly sexy chiseled godlike actor, and Edward, the supposedly hot dangerous vampire in Twilight, both of whom I don’t even know their real names.

So I moaned ,“Oh Thor.. oh yeah.. Edward.. yes yes yes!” And not to my surprise, my boyfriend, upset and utterly disturbed, turns the other way and says flat out “You’re disgusting.” So I try to comfort him by putting my hand on his shoulder. “Honey, are you OK?” He stays faced away and says in a monotone voice, “Don’t touch me, you gross me out,” and throws my hand off him.

I hold back my giggle, instead, I pretended to give him an angry tone: “Honey, you need to grow up, OK, it’s normal, everyone does it. God, I’m not hurting anyone, I’m just in the moment to get off and then I’ll be done. I still love you.” I smiled, and gave him a big hug. He pushes me off again. I can tell he was hurt. “At least I’m not watching Thor or Edward naked with their rock hard abs and hard c*ck, like you do with…” He continues: “I told you I stopped watching porn already, OK?”, and he assured me he was on the same page: “PORN IS WRONG. So.. you were masturbating to both Thor and Edward?.. AT THE SAME TIME??? EWWW! GROSSS!!! GET OFF ME!!”

“NO stupid,” I replied, “I wasn’t even thinking about them. I was just trying to prove a point.”

Still disturbed.. he laid there with his arm over his forehead… Grossed out.
