“Porn Is Not Empowering” — by Kelsey Ruane, Anti-Porn Feminist — (via XOJane – “Unpopular Opinion”)

Here’s a powerful new article that explains how there’s nothing “sex positive” or “empowering” about pornography! ~~

I believe in a sexual liberation that goes beyond simply mimicking what we see in the media and pornography. Instead of actually breaking the mold, the current so-called “revolution” has just repackaged male pleasure and female submission and sold it back to us as empowering. To accept the warped version of sexuality that the porn industry has manufactured is to give up on a wonderfully intimate and human experience that has the potential to be enjoyable for everyone — not just men. Giving in to porn just because it’s easier means surrendering to a misogynistic and racist institution and being complicit in our own degradation. An authentic sexual experience for any and all genders is worth fighting for.

It’s time for a true sexual revolution, and the last place we’ll get this is from the pornographers.

“How Jian Ghomeshi Pulled the Feminist Wool Over Everyone’s Eyes” – Gail Dines (Abuse fueled by porn?)

Gail Dines shares how the reported abuse by disgraced Canadian radio host Jian Ghomeshi was likely fueled by porn culture. NOTE: Ghomeshi was and is into sadomasochism.

The “partners” tell a very different story. According to an article in Slate, three women interviewed by the Toronto Star “allege that Ghomeshi physically attacked them on dates without their consent. They allege that he struck them with a closed fist or open hand; bit them; choked them until they almost passed out; covered their noses and mouths so that they had difficulty breathing; and that they were verbally abused during and after sex.”

I wish I could say that these types of assaults are news to me, but I have seen thousands of porn scenes that map out exactly the acts these women describe, and have interviewed hundreds of women who recount the same type of violence. Of course porn isn’t the only reason men assault women, but when you hear the same stories over and over again, from being choked till they almost pass out (and many of the women I interviewed have indeed passed out) to being verbally assaulted during the attack, then, as a sociologist, I have to ask: What “playbook” are these guys following?

ON PORN & CHOICE: I CHOOSE RESISTENCE: How Our Choices Can Change Our Sentiments – by Kourtney Mitchell

Check out this very powerful and informative article on the harms of pornography and the issue of CHOICE, by an awesome pro-feminist young man, Kourtney Mitchell.

There are now multiple generations of men socialized on gross-level violence against women, brought to their computers, phones and game consoles via the internet. Porn stars visit colleges and universities for “sex week”; sports events increase revenues for sex traffickers; sexual sadism is deemed chic, and men claim oppression when anyone challenges their right to watch films in which men use their penises to choke and mutilate women.

If we were to claim that it is okay for a man to sexually accost a boy simply because that is what gets him off, we would be labeled as the sexually perverted predators we are. But when we claim that it is also not okay to treat half the human population in the same manner, we are dismissed outright.

We grow up conditioned to make certain choices – the choice to objectify, denigrate and treat women as sub-human. Even when our parents try their best to protect us from such content, the culture makes sure we continue to have access to it. Our whole way of being and living and behaving in this world is directly informed by dominance of women.

But when we know better, we should do better. The harms of pornography affect all of us. It is time we start making better choices. Our choices are the first steps toward reclaiming our humanity, and shedding the skin of collective perpetration in this world.

I do not want to live in a world where women are tortured on camera for profit. Do you? When you look into it, most of you will probably find that you don’t. Imagine this: what if that was your mother, sister, or daughter getting choked and crying and being called names? Most men would not get off on that.

I am one out of a growing number of men who are attempting to change the way we think of ourselves. Start by looking past the pleasure you receive from seeing another human being tortured on camera for profit. Consider the images outside of your sexual gratification, and instead consider them on the basis of how human beings should be treated.

Male entitlement begets male entitlement: On Elliot Rodger, misogyny, & the sex industry – via Feminist Current

“In a world wherein men learn they not only deserve, but have the right to women’s bodies, Rodger’s behaviour isn’t really all that surprising. From the time they are young, boys are offered women’s bodies. They are provided with pornography, told that this is what women are for: your eyes, your pleasure, your dick.

Men and boys learn that what they want, they should have. That their every fantasy should be fulfilled. That prostitution even exists is proof of this message. That we live in a rape culture and a porn culture is further proof. What exactly did we think would come of telling men that sex is a right? That women owe it to them?

My dear friend, Elizabeth Pickett, wrote, of Rodger: “Real women failed to live up to the expectations created for him by pornography. So he killed some.” We offer men this fantasy — it’s no wonder they become enraged when women don’t perform as expected.”

STOP PORN CULTURE REPORT: Those who watch modern porn are becoming increasingly desensitized

NEW REPORT: Gail Dines of Stop Porn Culture on their UK conference this past weekend!

[Independent] — If you turn on the television, flick through a magazine or look at billboards, you will see that porn has now become a blueprint for how the media represents women’s bodies. Whether it be Katy Perry writhing around almost naked in a music video, or Miley Cyrus “twerking” with a man almost twice her age (who seems to have a “blurred” understanding of sex), the images that bombard us daily look much like soft-core porn did a few decades ago.

Today there is almost no soft-core porn on the internet, because most of it has migrated into pop culture. What we are left with is a porn industry that is now so hard-core that even some of the big-name porn producers and directors are amazed at how far they can go.

Feminists from six countries convened in London this weekend for a Stop Porn Culture conference that focused on how porn culture shapes our ideas about sexuality, relationships, masculinity, femininity and intimacy. Recognizing that porn images have now been seamlessly woven into our pop culture, thanks mainly to the internet, speakers addressed the multiple harms of bringing up a generation of girls and boys on misogynist images.

One of the key issues discussed at the conference was the way porn fans are becoming increasingly desensitised and are looking for more hard-core content. According to porn director Mitchell Spinelli, fans are becoming “more demanding about wanting to see the more extreme stuff.”

NEW ANTI-PORN DOCUMENTARY: Featuring AntiPornography.org volunteer, ex-porn performer VANESSA BELMOND

There is a NEW UK DOCUMENTARY that has been made on the harms of pornography! It will air Monday October 21 on Channel 4 and will then be posted on their site for 30 days! (Free On Demand.)

“Date My Porn Star” may not sound like an anti-porn doc, but it really is! And one of the things that makes it anti-porn is that our very own volunteer, ex porn performer Vanessa Belmond, is appearing in the documentary! She shares the HARSH TRUTH about porn with three male porn fans, and really wakes them up! 🙂

[Channel 4] – Watching porn has never been easier. With hardcore sexual imagery just a click away, more and more people, of all ages, are accessing porn. For many it not only forms part of their sex life, but can become a daily or even hourly fixture.

In this documentary, part of the Campaign for Real Sex, three British porn obsessives explore the boundaries between sexual fantasy and reality as they travel to the heart of the porn industry in Los Angeles to meet their favourite adult movie stars.

Forty-year-old Jonathan, 20-year-old Kevin and 23-year-old Danny are anticipating the trip of a lifetime. As well as meeting their porn idols, however, the men get more than they bargained for as they are faced with a darker and less glamorous side of porn.

Seeing their porn idols in action on set is enticing. But when they discuss their life and the value of real and lasting relationships it comes as a surprise for the men.

When they visit a low-end porn studio and witness a casting conveyer belt of wannabe porn stars, followed by a porn orgy that’s deeply degrading for female actors, the men begin to question their views.

The final meeting with an ex-porn star, who shares her candid, harrowing story, could be the final tipping point. Exposed to the challenging realities of the industry, can the men continue to reconcile their sexual fantasies with their experiences in porn-land?

A young man searched for ‘granny porn’ for 4 hours, then stabbed to death his step-grandmother

Here is a VERY disturbing story about a young man who spent four hours surfing for hardcore “granny” porn, then murdered his grandmother right afterwards! But porn doesn’t REALLY affect the viewers and their attitudes and behavior, right?? It’s just “harmless ‘adult’ entertainment,” right? We’ll let you be the judge…

[Mirror UK] — A ‘troubled’ young man knifed his step-grandmother to death in a sexually-motivated killing after an internet surfing session for ‘granny porn’.

Jack Huxley, 20, armed himself with kitchen knives and a carving fork to stab vulnerable pensioner Janis Dundas as she slept, leaving three blades protruding from her battered body before he fled.

The 62-year-old had given her wayward stepson a bed for the night after he turned up on her doorstep, apparently homeless.

But after a late-night session on her computer searching the web for ‘sexual activity between young men and mature women’, Huxley subjected his elderly relative to a brutal attack, leaving behind up to 28 knife wounds.

Ms Dundas bloodied body was found naked on her bed with evidence that her stepson had engaged in ‘sexual activity’ with her, but not intercourse.

Liverpool Crown Court today heard loner Huxley had never had a girlfriend, had a history of self-harm and been bullied regularly during his childhood.

His barrister Charles Miskin QC said: “He was like a wild animal who doesn’t care about anything.”

Checks of Ms Dundas’ computer revealed Huxley, who sat in the dock holding his head in his hands, had scoured the internet for hardcore pornography over a four-hour period leading up to the ferocious attack at her home in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

Among the catalogue of injuries were a nine-inch wound to her neck, severing the larynx, and ‘horrific’ defensive wounds to her hands which left one of her fingers ‘hanging off’, prosecutor Stuart Lawson-Rogers said.

Ms Dundas heavily bloodstained tights had been removed completely while beneath her body was a pair of Huxley’s Calvin Klein boxer shorts.

Today, Huxley pleaded guilty to murder on the first day of his scheduled trial, but Judge Clement Goldstone suspended sentence until tomorrow.

A neighbour told police how she watched a young man drive away from the scene, on April 5, in Mrs Dundas Peugoet car, momentarily crashing into a wall.
